Abstract

1376969 Bricks for furnace roofs L'ELECTRO-REFRACTAIRE 12 July 1972 [27 July 1971] 32654/72 Heading F4B An arch stone for building a refractory vault comprises a past cast from fused refractory material and has at least one recess in its upper face extending parallel to the plane of curvature of the arch. The fused refractory comprises at least one of the oxides of aluminium, silicon, zirconium, magnesium or chromium, and the recess is filled with heat insulating refractory material. Each arch stone may have two recesses 2 on either side of a central rib 3, so that the upper surface of the arch presents alternate fused refractory and heat insulating refractory bands extending across the arch, Figs. 1 and 2. Each arch stone may be formed with a single recess 8, Figs. 3 and 4, extending the width of the arch stone parallel to its vertical sides, the. fused refractory extending to the top of the arch stone at the vertical sides 6, and may be formed by placing a preformed shape of heat insulating refractory at the bottom of a mould into which fused refractory is cast.
