Abstract

1376895 Concrete slabs BANBURY BUILDINGS HOLDINGS Ltd 10 March 1972 [10 Dec 1970] 58565/70 Heading E1B [Also in Division B6] A moulded article of concrete or other mouldable and settable material is provided with a simulated brick facing by (a) moulding the article to its desired shape including an outer surface having embossed regions in the shape of brick faces and separated by latticelike pattern below the surface level of the embossed regions and representing mortar joints between bricks, (b) allowing the article to cure or harden, (c) applying a first mask to cover the lattice-like pattern but to leave the embossed regions exposed, (d) applying an adhesive layer to the outer surface and the first mask so that only the embossed regions are coated with the adhesive layer, (e) spreading a layer of powder providing the colour and texture of brick on the adhesive layer, (f) removing the first mask, and (g) allowing the adhesive layer to cure. In a modification, the following steps are performed after the steps (a)-(d) instead of the step (e):-(h) the second mask exposing certain of the exposed regions only is placed over said first mask, (i) a layer of powder of the first colour of brick is spread on to the adhesive layer so that only those embossed regions exposed by the second mask are coated with a layer of powder of the first colour, (j) removing the second mask, (k) placing over the first mask a third mask covering those embossed regions that have already been coated with powder but exposing the remaining or some of the remaining embossed regions, (1) spreading on to the adhesive layer a layer of powder of a second colour of brick so that only those embossed regions exposed by the third mask are coated with the layer of powder of the second colour, (m) removing the third mask and where there are still embossed regions remaining uncoated with powder, (n) applying a further mask or successive further masks, coating the or each further mask with powder of a further colour of brick and removing the or each further mask, the steps (f) and (g) then being performed. The powder may be brick dust or crushed tile and the colour may be adjusted by mixing sand or a pigment therewith. The adhesive layer may be a mixture of a latex resin, water and cement,
