Abstract

1376301 Injection moulding E S PERRY Ltd 1 Nov 1971 [7 Jan 1971 18 June 1971] 882/71 and 28818/71 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions A6 and G4-G6] Cubic resilient plastics toy bricks having a spigot on one face, a single plane face, and one socket in each of the remaining faces (see Divisions A5-A6), are moulded in a two-part die 20, 22 made from steel, pre-air hardened and then carbonized, with mould cavities 28, 36 formed by spark erosion. The cavities 28 form the bodies of the bricks, and the cavities 36 the spigots. One fixed pin 32, surrounded by a slidable sleeve 34, projects into each body cavity 28, into each of which three retractible pins 30 (two only shown), are also introduced, the ends of the pins forming the sockets. Cooling water at below 40‹ F. circulates through passages 38. Hot ABS, &c. is injected into the cooled dies and allowed to cool until a rigid skin is formed, when the bricks are ejected into water at near freezing temperature to complete cooling. The bases of the sockets so formed are enlarged, to facilitate the fit of spigots on like bricks.
