1376265 Screw press for filtering slurryKRIMA MASKINFABRIK AB 19 Dec 1972 [22 Dec 1971] 58609/72 Heading B1D In a press for filtering fibrous slurry wherein screw 7, 8, 9 is rotated within a cylindrical strainer 6, the solids discharge opening 14 is defined between diverging extension 16 of the strainer and frusto-conical sleeve 15, which is rotatable relative to the screw but moves axially with the screw to adjust the width of the opening when the screw is moved - by hydraulic ram 24..28. The core of the screw diverges over two thirds of its length towards opening 14. The ram comprises annular flange 24 on housing 21, which encloses bearings 22, 23 supporting one end of the screw shaft 4, flange 24 acting as a piston movable in fixed cylinder 2 by supply of fluid to passages 27, 28. The opening 14 may thereby be adjusted during pressing to compensate for varying proportions of solids in the feed to produce a uniform solids product. Alternatively the screw is continuously reciprocated during pressing with an axial stroke of 5mm.
