One pivot comprises a pin 76 fixed to either the window or the casing and lockable in a recess in the other by means of the link 8 to complete the connection. The other pivot comprises a pin 62 rotatably secured in the window and engageable by the link 12 to complete the connection. The pivots 62, 64 are linked to torsion bars 66, 68 connected to the window to control the opening of the window about the horizontal axis. As shown, the linkage is in the hollow casing, the arm 12 engaging the pivot 62 by means of a lug 32 slidable in a groove 70. Alternatively, Fig. 7 (not shown) the linkage may be located in a hollow window frame, the pivot 62 being in two separable but rotationally coupled parts, one part being connected to the casing and being engageable by a forked end of the arm 12. The linkage may be restrained from movement in the window-open position either by an element pivoted to the casing and engaging a rack 93 on the bar 8, the element being automatically disengaged on closing the window, or by means of lugs on the linkage being constrained to engage behind arcuate flanges on the casing in the window open positions, Figs. 8-10 (not shown). A window O.B. as above described may be incorporated in a casing 144 having a secondary, casement window V.S. An espagnolette bolt 140 on the window V.S. is operable by means of a slide 150 coupled to a further cam 156 on the handle of window O.B., the cam being arranged to disengage the bolt only when the window O.B. is arranged to pivot about the vertical axis X-X'. A spring-loaded catch 160 prevents the window O.B. from being closed until the window V.S. is also closed.
