1375692 Draining and filling reservoirs STERLING HYDRAULICS Ltd 10 Nov 1971 [12 Aug 1970] 38954/70 Heading A4T [Also in Divisions F1 and F2] Apparatus for withdrawing liquid from and supplying liquid to a reservoir, e.g. for changing the oil in a vehicle engine sump, comprises an inlet line 11 and outlet line 12 connected to a common head 10 with a nozzle 51 connectable to a coupling 52 connected to the reservoir, pumps 15 and 33 being provided in lines 11 and 12, and a valve assembly 76 acting to isolate the operative line from the inoperative line. Pumps 15 and 33 may be air motor-operated piston pumps, as shown, or may be peristaltic pumps. The air motors are controlled by pilot valves 25, 26, 46, 47 and controller 30. Pump 15 may be controlled to deliver measured quantities. Both pump cylinders and the inlet and delivery lines may be of transparent or translucent material. Nozzle 51 and coupling 52 have valves 64, 53 which are automatically opened on connection. Ball assembly 55 locks nozzle 51 to coupling 52 and is releasable by trigger 61. Valve 76 occupies the position shown during suction in outlet line 12, and moves to the left to engage seat 74 when suction ceases and liquid under pressure is supplied through line 11. Further increase in pressure in line 11 moves ball valve 86 to the left for passage of the liquid to the reservoir. Passage 88 permits pressure equalization on either side of valve 76 to ensure seating in the position shown. Lines 11 and 12 may have helical wire reinforcement 93, and may be formed as integral twin line or secured to one another.
