Abstract

1375635 Fluidized bed base plate F M C CORP 6 July 1972 [12 July 1971] 31791/72 Heading B1F [Also in Divisions C5 and F4] A fluidized bed vessel comprises a hollow cylinder 10 and a fluidizing grid 12. The grid consists of a series of feed pipes 14 having two series of holes 16. A smaller pipe 28 extends inside for most of the length in each of the pipes 14, and has an open end 30 near the closed end 32 of pipe 14. In the embodiment shown the pipe 28 is connected to a source of fluidizing gas through a manifold 34 and pipe 14 connected to the atmosphere via a valve 36 and filter bag 38. The two pipes may be connected in the reverse manner. The pipes 14 are welded to the vessel 10 at 18 where they pass through the vessel. Inside the vessel the pipes rest on a saddle 20 and are held down by a bar 24, this arrangement allowing expansion and contraction of the pipes. The grid can be cleaned by opening the valve 36 and allowing the fluidizing gas to pass through both pipes carrying the collected particles with it.
