Abstract
1375429 Raising liquids; cooling compressors THOMAS THS SABROE & CO AS 18 Sept 1972 [24 Sept 1971] 43072/72 Headings F1N and F1R [Also in Division F4] A cooling system for cooling the compressor casing or other units in a refrigeration system includes a thermal pump 20 in contact with an oil separator 8; the pump 20 being directly connected to both the condenser outlet conduit 10 and to the evaporator outlet conduit 16; and by a heat exchanger 34 to the compressor casing 2. In operation, when the pump container 20 is empty the float 42 will open the valve 28 whereby the container is connected to the suction side of the compressor through pipe 26. Cooling liquid will be sent from the pressure line 10 through the non-return valve 22 into the container with the level causes the float valve to close valve 28. Hot oil in separator 8 causes the liquid in container 20 to evaporate, the pressure created forcing the liquid cooling medium through a throttle valve 38 into the heat exchanger 34. The cooling may also be effected by direct injection. The outlet of the heat exchanger is connected to the discharge side of the compressor through a pipe 36. In other embodiments the container 20 may be directly adjacent the compressor, in which case a supplementary heat exchanger may be necessary in line 32; the pumping fluid may be a fluorocarbon passing around an independent circuit to the refrigerator Fig. 4 (not shown); or the pumping fluid may drive a small pump which circulates the cooling fluid through the compressor Fig. 5 (not shown).
