Abstract
1375331 Diapers; sanitary towels MO OCH DOMSJO AB 21 Feb 1973 [22 Feb 1972] 8508/73 Heading A5R An absorption product for personal use e.g. a diaper or sanitary towel, comprises a sheet of absorptive material having a first edge and second and third edges which converge in a direction away from the first edge, the sheet being folded about first and second fold lines substantially perpendicular to the first edge to provide a first one of triple material thickness at one end of the sheet and a second zone of single thickness at the other end, the second zone being partly bounded by ridges of double material thickness. Apparatus for producing the product comprises a metering apparatus 17 which dispenses dry defibrated cellulose onto a conveyor 19, the cellulose being shredded and fed to a conveying drum 22 having perforated trapezoidal areas 24 on which the cellulose is held by a vacuum operating in compartment 26 of the drum, excess material being removed by a sweeping device 30. The trapezoidal sheets 23 are transferred to an endless conveyor 31 so as to lie between sheets 32, 33 of wet-strength paper and pass through a folding device 36. The folded strips 37 are then transferred to a conveyor 38 where a wrapper 40 is applied by passage through apparatus 41 where the edges of wrapper 40 are folded around the longitudinal sides of strips 37 so as to overlap on the upper surface thereof, a binder being applied from jet 42 to the lower edge of the wrapper. The strips then pass to a pressing and cutting device 43 and a packing station. In a modification, the drum 22 is omitted, the cellulose being deposited directly onto an endless conveyor having perforated trapezoidal areas which are either separate or form a continuous area lengthwise of the conveyor with adjacent areas being of opposite hand.
