Abstract

1374025 Tufting machine; needles; work supports CRESTLINE MILLS CARPET CO Inc 7 Feb 1972 5622/72 Heading D1G A tufting machine is arranged so that each needle 80 is fed with at least two yarns and co-operates with two loopers 148 so that the needle, at each insertion, provides at least two tufts. As shown the needles 80 are arranged. in two staggered rows, the needles of the front row entering notches 132 in the edge of an opening 130 in the needle plate 128, while those of the back row enter spaces 140 between blades 136 extending across the opening. Each needle (Figs. 7-11 not shown) comprises a tubular upper end 80 received in a needle bar and a channel section lower part (102) provided with an eye (114). The front edge of the needle is provided with oppositely directed faces (110a and 110b) which separate the yarns emerging from the eye (114) to allow of their engagement by a respective looper. The yarn feed rollers (40, 42, Figs. 1 and 2 not shown) are grooved to receive the yarns, which pass through an apertured jerker (70).
