Abstract

1373274 Substituted furan derivatives SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 15 Jan 1973 [17 Jan 1972] 2115/72 Heading C2C Substituted furan derivatives of Formula I where R 1 is H or optionally substituted alkyl or aryl; R 2 is optionally substituted alkyl or aryl; and R 3 and R 4 each represent alkyl, are prepared by reacting a halo-ketone of Formula II where Hal is halogen, with an enamine of Formula III where R 5 and R 6 each represent alkyl or aryl, or together with the nitrogen atom to which they are linked jointly represent a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring. The enamine of Formula III may be prepared by treating a keto-ester of Formula IV with a 5- or 6-membered cyclic secondary amine. The compounds of Formula I are used as intermediates in the synthesis of pesticides. Preferred compounds are the alkyl esters of 2,5-dimethyl- 3-furoic acid.
