Abstract

1372798 Induction heating coil SIEMENS AG 7 Nov 1972 [24 Nov 1971] 51214/72 Heading H5H To prevent spark overs, a single or multiturn induction heating coil 1 for zone melting semiconductor rods is made at least in part of aluminium tubing provided with an electrically insulating external coating. As shown, the ends 2, 3 of the aluminium coil 1 are secured in vacuum-tight manner by aluminium solder in respective bores 4, 5 in aluminium connection elements 6, 7 respectively. Thereafter the coil 1 is anodically oxidized to provide an aluminium oxide layer of 10-200 Á thickness. This assembly is connected to a silver plated brass coil holder. In Fig. 2, not shown, the coil is anodically oxidized before it is connected, by non-coated ends, to a silver connection elements. A tight fitting steel cylinder is fitted within each coil end to improve heat dissipation during soldering the end by tin solder, into a bore in its silver connection element. The steel cylinder is removed and the assembly connected to a silver-plated brass coil holder. The zone melting process is carried out in a vacuum or in hydrogen, argon or other inert gas.
