Abstract

1372579 Four channel stereo systems PIONEER ELECTRONIC CORP 8 Nov 1971 [9 Nov 1970] 51839/71 Heading H4R A device reproduces two channel stereo signals over four loudspeakers 20, 22, 26, 29 by deriving two extra signals from the two stereo signals and feeding them to two loudspeakers 26, 29 arranged at the rear of the listening area. As described the signals for the rear loudspeakers are derived by taking the difference between the left and right channel signals, applied to terminals of the mixing circuit 23, and feeding the resulting signal to two phase shifting circuits 24, 27, which produce phase shifts which differ by approximately 90 degrees over the frequency range in use. The phase shifting circuits each comprise the cascaded connection of three phase shift circuits each of which has a different phase frequency characteristic. A reverberation device or delay circuit can be provided in the feed to the mixer 23.
