Abstract

1372251 Glass-plastics laminates IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 7 April 1972 [21 April 1971] 10475/71 Heading B5N Glass laminates are made by holding together two sheets of glass with an ethylene copolymer interlayer therebetween and dielectrically heating the copolymer layer uniformly across its area to a temperature above its melting point, under such conditions that the average temperature through the glass sheets does not exceed 60‹ C. The heating may be by electrodes, which may be cooled, disposed at each outer surface of the assembly. Air should be removed from the assembly before heating, e.g. by vacuum or by rolling. The copolymer may contain at least 70% ethylene, 5-15% methacrylic acid and 5-30% alkyl acrylate or methacrylate, the alkyl radical containing not more than 12 C atoms (preferably methyl methacrylate).
