Abstract

1371886 Benzofurans; sulphenamides CHEVRON RESEARCH CO 16 March 1973 [17 March 1972 (2) 8 May 1972 21 Dec 1972] 12896/73 Heading C2C Novel benzofuranyl carbamates of the Formula I wherein R and R<SP>11</SP> are hydrogen atoms or C 1-4 alkyl groups and R<SP>1</SP> is a C 1-12 alkyl, cycloalkyl, C 2-12 alkenyl, C 6-10 monocyclic or bicyclic anyl, aralkyl, C 2-12 haloalkyl, C 2-12 haloalkenyl or C 6-10 monocyclic or bicylic aryl or aralkyl substituted by halogen or nitro, group or a graph of the Formula IX any halogenated radical containing 1 to 5 chlorine, bromine or fluorine atoms, are obtained by (1) reacting sulphenyl halides (R<SP>1</SP>-S-X), X being a halogen atom, with appropriate 2,3 - dihydro - 7 - benzofuranyl carbamates, (ii) reacting N-thio substituted carbamoyl chlorides (R<SP>1</SP>-S-NR<SP>11</SP>-CO-Cl) with the sodium salts of appropriate 2,3-dihydro-7- hydroxybenzofurans, (iii) reacting sulphenylate amines (R<SP>1</SP>-S-NR<SP>11</SP>-H) with chloroformates of 2,3 - dihydro - 7 - hydroxy - benzofurans, (vii) or (iv) (when R<SP>1</SP> is an alkenyl or haloalkenyl group) by dehydrohalogenation of corresponding compounds in which R<SP>1</SP> is a haloalkyl group. Insecticidal compositions comprise compounds of the Formula I above together with biologically inert carriers. N - Thio - substituted carbamoyl chlorides (R<SP>1</SP>-S-NR<SP>11</SP>-COCl) may be prepared by reacting phosgene with sulphenylated amines (R<SP>1</SP>-S-NR<SP>11</SP>-H). The sulphenylated amines may be prepared by reacting sulphenyl halides with appropriate amines. Chloroformates of the Formula VII may be obtained by reacting phosgene with appropriate 2,3 - dihydro - 7 - hydroxybenzofurans.
