1371869 Measuring fluid-flow electrically GIRLING Ltd 1 Oct 1973 [19 Dec 1972] 58674/72 Heading G1N A flowmeter includes a housing having two parts 11, 12 together defining a chamber 16, a hollow member 17 of a magnetic material through which member the flow passes and which is displaced thereby against a spring 19, displacement of the member being sensed by a coil 20 of which the reluctance varies as the displacement of the member above the chamber. The clearance between the member and the wall of the chamber is selected to achieve the required amount of damping of the member so that it does not hunt.
