Abstract

1371692 Pressing glass E ILK [trading as FORMA GmbH & CO KG] 8 Feb 1972 [8 Feb 1971] 5897/72 Heading C1M Stemmed glassware is produced by utilizing stem-forming apparatus comprising a press punch 14 surrounded by a down holder ring 15 which surrounds the punch and which in use precedes the punch; a divided mould 7, 8 and a ring 10 having an upwardly frusto-conical orifice surmounting the mould; the stem being formed between the mould halves and the foot between the punch 14, downholder ring 15 and frustoconical ring 10, the footed stem being subsequently united to a bowl. The ring 10 is axially aligned with the mould by the action of two hinged members 12, 13 each of which mount a mould half and include a frusto-conical recess for contacting the ring 10. The stem forming apparatus is mounted on a turntable, a glass feeder 6 being associated with one section thereof. The feeder is capable of delivering a gob whose weight is determined to an accuracy of Œ0À1 g. and a temperature of between 1100‹ to 1200‹ C. and maintained to within Œ3‹ C. To control the temperature the feeder is provided with a resistance heater controlled by a transistorized control means. A second turntable on which the bowls are produced preferably by blowing may be situated adjacent the first turntable. The mould 7, 8 and ring 10 consist of an austentic chrome-nickel steel which is a poor heat conductor, the punch 14 is of a conductive ferritic steel and the downholder ring 15 is of a conductive chill casting. The preferred moulding pressure is 200 kg.
