Abstract
1371097 Gas turbine engines; jet propulstion units C A BUDD 16 Oct 1971 [7 Oct 1970] 47644/70 Headings FIG and F1J The invention relates to an engine comprising an air compressor from which pressurized air passes to a combustion chamber, gases passing from the chamber to a utilisation device such as a gas turbine, the combustion chamber having non- return air inlet means. In Fig.1, the engine comprises compressor 62, combustion equipment 63 and a turbine 64 connected to drive the compressor through shaft 69. The combustion equipment comprises a flame tube 63 having a non- return inlet valve 77, also fuel injection means 67 and an igniter 68. The combustion chamber communicates by way of a duct 66 with a reservoir 81 from which the gases pass to inlet nozzle 82 of the turbine. A number of concentric baffles are disposed in the reservoir. Slugs of combustion gas and air pass in succession from the combustion chamber. The air compressor and the turbine may be dispensed with, the unit operating as a pulsating jet propulsion unit
