Abstract

1370758 Ear protectors MINE SAFETY APPLIANCES CO 22 March 1973 [21 April 1972] 13936/73 Heading A3V A sound attenuating device comprises a head band 2 and earcups 6, the headband 2 including support portions 4 at its ends each containing a keyhole slot 14 to receive the stem 9 of a stud 8 projecting from the outer shell 10 of the associated earcup 6, the head 17 of the stud being larger than the elongated narrow opening 15 of the slot 14 but smaller than the larger opening 16 for removal of the earcup, the cup normally being held in place by a resilient cup-like locking washer 18 stretched over the head 17, but being removable when desired, the arrangement providing for slidable rotatable and pivotal mounting of the earcups on the headband. The headband is preferably of a rigid spring-like plastic material and the earcups 6 which have a sound attenuating cushion 12 and annular cover 13 are provided with a resilient dish-shaped washer 19 to bear on the support portions 4 and hold the earcups in their adjusted positions relative to the slot opening 15.
