Abstract

136,967. Collins, G. H., Collins, H. F., and Pitcher, C. G. March 3, 1919. Plug couplings and connectors. - A connector for electrically operated or heated devices, such as electric irons, comprises a china or equivalent main insulating-portion, Fig. 4, having holes 16 in which are split sockets, and an end portion or cap of a material which is both heat and electricity insulating, such as porcelain or vulcanite. the cap having ears whereby it may be handled without risk of burning the fingers. The holes 16 for the sockets are square at their inner ends and have rectangular section channels 19 in which flat portions 20 of the sockets engage to prevent rotation. The sockets are of sheet metal and are split longitudinally, and also transversely at intervals, each resulting portion making independent contact with the spigot. The flexible cord is brought in through a spring-like wire member 31. which prevents abrasion and is secured in a helical groove in the cap; the cord passes out through a hole 4 in the cap, where it is, knotted, and the wires are taken singly through holes 7, 8 to the socket terminals. The main insulator is housed in a flanged metal casing 23 to prevent breakage and, by this means and a screw 26, is secured to the end piece or cap. Specification 107,831 is referred to.
