1369279 Treating metals MAKEEVSKY ORDENA LENINA METALLURGICHESKY ZAVOD IMENI S M KIROVA 8 Dec 1972 [13 Dec 1971] 56857/72 Heading C7D Magnesium, for adding to melts, is admixed with a substance which reduces the rate of evaporation of Mg, the substance being calcined dolomite, magnesite, chromium magnesite, slag, or calcium carbide. The substance may also be, or include, an alloying ingredient, e.g. Mn, Cr or Ni. In an example, lumps of the substance are heated to 600‹-650‹ C, and placed in a mould, whereupon molten Mg is poured in, filling up the voids between lumps to form an ingot, which can be added to the melt to be treated.
