1369165 Washing machines FRANKLIN MFG CO 12 April 1973 [28 April 1972 (2)] 17757/73 Heading D1A In a washing machine with a reversible drive motor 22 and a transmission 19 by which an agitator 17 is oscillated when the motor rotates in one sense and a basket 13 (and the agitator) are rotated for spin drying when the motor rotates in the opposite sense, the transmission includes two stage reduction gearing mounted in one housing section 47 and a sector gear 136 and a meshing output pinion mounted in the other housing section 46, a rigid link 146 being pivoted to the sector wheel 136 and eccentrically to the gear wheel 128 of the reduction gearing. In the first or agitating mode a motor driven belt pulley 28 rotates a collar 98 pinned to an input shaft 31 through a one-way helical spring clutch 102 and the shaft 31 oscillates the agitator 17 mounted on the co-axial output shaft 32 through the reduction gear pairs 121/126 and 127/128, the link 146, the sector gear 136 and the pinion 141 on the output shaft. In the second or spin drying mode the pulley 28 drives the shaft 31 through a slip clutch 105 and hence through a helical-spring oneway clutch 123, a sleeve pinned at 53 to the transmission housing, and a sleeve 33 which is pinned at 67 to the housing and to which the basket 13 is secured. The slip clutch comprises a friction lining 106 engaging pulley surface 94 and secured to an apertured disc 107 with a flange 113 having cut outs 112 through which pass fingers of a spider spring 108 secured at its centre to the shaft 31. The tub 16 is supported through legs 81 secured to a disc 170 which has a spherical surface 171 held by springs 174 and 175 against an annulus 176 which also engages part-spherical portion 172 of the machine casing bottom.
