Abstract

1368662 Sliver openers; driving arrangements SCHUBERT & SALZER MASCHINENFABRIK AG 14 Aug 1972 [14 Aug 1971] 37739/72 Headings DID and DIN A sliver opener for an open end spinning device comprises a case 10 containing a feed roller and opening roller driven via a whirl 53 and belt 52. The belt is lifted on or off the whirl 53 or a driving pulley by a member (55) displacable between two terminal positions. As shown, the belt is driven by whirl 51 and is entrained around roller 55 mounted on pivoted lever 6. The belt 52 is normally held against the opening roller whirl 53 by a spring 60 acting on the lever supporting roller 55. The belt is disengaged by moving the handle of lever 6 so that it is held by detent 63. The opening roller may be braked. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the roller 55 is mounted on one pivoted lever (70) which is moved to engage or disengage the belt by a second lever 7. The second lever can be held in the inoperative position by a catch. The lever 6 may be moved manually, pneumatically or hydraulically. The drive to the feed roller may also be disengaged by slipping belt (31) off the feed roller whirl 32 by moving a shaft (16) to the left, (Fig. 1 not shown), or by pivoting gear 82 out of gear train 80, 81, 82. The gears may be spur or friction gears. A stop motion (20) may clamp the sliver and lift a draw-in block away from the feed roller. The drive to the spinning motor may be disengaged by a roller lifting the drive belt (22) off the rotor shaft (23). The spinning device may be a rotor, a spinning or stationary funnel, an electrostatically operated device or tubes in which fibres in a fluid join a freely rotating yarn end.
