1367980 Broaches ORDENA TRUDOVOGO KRASNOGO ZNAMENI EXPERIMENTALNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT METALLOREZHUSCHIKH STANKOV 8 Dec 1972 57277/72 Heading B3L A built-up broach for shaping holes has a mandrel 1 which carries blocks along its length and each block comprises a shell 2, Fig. 2, mountable on the mandrel and a cutting member 3 mounted and fastened to the shell, Fig. 2, shows an annular cutter fastened to shell 2 by a nut 4. In an alternative embodiment the inner surface of the cutter and shell surface 5 are conically shaped to allow adjustment of the radial setting of the cutter. Figs. 4 and 5 show a cutter consisting of cutting elements 16 circumferentially spaced about shell 23. Variation in the thickness of the elements is catered for by a distributing ring 19. This ring has slots 21 which engage with the cutting elements, each slot having a projection 22 that abuts an element. The opposite surface of the ring has projections 26 which abut nut 24. Thus deformation of the ring can occur. Radial adjustment can be provided by the provision of a renewable ring radially between the elements and the shell. These latter co-operative surfaces may be tapered.
