Abstract

1366989 Ceramic or cermet coated gauges C E JOHANSSON A B 17 Feb 1972 [19 Feb 1971 2 Feb 1972] 7422/72 Heading G1M A steel gauge block is abraded or pre-lapped to a level of 0À02-5 microns below the desired final measurement and then coated in known manner with a hard wear and scratch resisting ceramic or cermet layer which may then be finally lapped or polished if required. The layer may comprise one or more carbides, nitrides and/or borides of metals belonging to groups 3-6 of the periodic system, and the abrasive may be finely grained powder of aluminium oxide, silicon carbide, titanium carbide or diamond.
