Abstract
1366551 Rotary fluid-flow meters ELDEC CORP 11 Feb 1972 [18 Feb 1971] 6515/72 Heading F1F A fuel flowmeter comprises a turbine member 112 secured to a rotary shaft 114 which is coupled to an impeller 119 through a spring 130, liquid entering from the left rotating the turbine member by passing through angled slots 112A, Fig. 3, and then passing through straightening vanes 118 to impeller vanes 119A, the lag between the impeller and the turbine member being detected magnetically to provide a measure of the mass flow-rate, turbine member 112 having by-pass holes 112B, Fig. 3, controlled by leaf springs 115A of a valve member 115, so that at high flow-rates part of the flow is by-passed through holes 112B, and the turbine member operates at a substantially constant speed over a wide range of flow-rates. The by-pass holes may be slightly angled to partially counteract the driving force of slots 112A. Energy-recovery vanes 126 are mounted on shaft 114. Impeller 119 is supported by jewel bearings 121, 122 protected by springs 123, 124. The detection assembly comprises magnets 140, 141 and 150, 151 on the turbine and impeller, and pick-up coils 144, 153.
