Abstract

1366324 Rollers; shafts etc.; assembling force fits MORGAN CONSTRUCTION CO 1 Sept 1971 [8 Sept 1970] 40739/71 Heading B3U [Also in Division F2] On a roller end having two reduced portions 2, 8 is mountable an assembly comprising inner and outer bearing elements 16, 26 connected to a fluid pressure (e.g. hydraulic) double acting actuator for forcing the assembly on and withdrawing from the roller including a collar 48, 106 a sliding fit on the portion 8 and having clamping means (e.g. a lock-nut 98, 144) to hold the element 16 on the portion 2. Mounting may comprise sliding the assembly on the roller end, inserting a flanged 74 (e.g. split) ring 72 in a groove in the portion 8, pressurizing a chamber 84, 110 to thrust the collar 48, 106 against the ring 72 and the element 16 on the portion 8 when the nut 98 is tightened. Removal involves slackening the nut 98, 144, pressurizing another chamber 92, 112, removing the ring 72 and sliding the assembly off the roll end. In the Fig. 3 assembly a flange 108 on the collar 106 may have a series of holes 124, alternately housing, push rods between the nut 144 and a part 104, and, bolts 126 encircled by springs 128 to bias a piston 120 clear of the non-rotary parts 140 &c. A thrust bearing 100 may be included.
