Abstract

1365710 Rolling mills; winding F KOCKS 31 Dec 1971 [2 Jan 1971] 60898/71 Heading B3M and B3E A rolling mill for small sections includes a roughing or intermediate train 2, Fig. 2, which is connected by guide pipes 12a-12d, and 16a- 16d with four finishing trains 4a to 4d, a separate coil furnace 14a-14d being associated with each finishing train. Stock from the train 2 is successively fed by a pivotable guide 10 to one of the pipes 12, is coiled in the associated furnace, and immediately uncoiled into a pipe 16 leading into a finishing train. Each furnace, Fig. 3, works on the Edenborn principle and is provided with a common inlet and outlet guide 42. During coiling, stock enters the guide 42, is fed through two guide rollers 30, and is delivered by a rotary layering pipe 18 into a gas heated chamber 14. Just before the trailing end of the stock enters the guide 42, a sensor 48 (Fig. 2) causes the motor 32 driving the rollers 30 and pipe 18 to be reversed. Simultaneously the guide is turned to the dotted position, and the trailing end (still at rolling temperature) is fed out of the furnace to one of the finishing trains. When all the stock has left the furnace, the guide is turned to its initial position ready for a further length of stock. The speeds of the finishing trains are arranged to be approximately four times slower than that of the train 2 so that the mill can run continuously. The tubes 16 can extend to the inlets of the finishing stands, or can be interrupted, as shown, by cropping shears. In addition to the sensors 48, a sensor 49 may be used for detecting the end of a length of stock and for slowing down the motors 32. Serially connected hydrostatic motors may be used in place of each motor 32.
