Abstract

1364400 Vehicle control MASCHINENFABRIK FAHR AG GOTTMADINGEN 6 April 1973 [18 May 1972] 16482/73 Heading B7H [Also in Division G3] Automatic direction control apparatus for vehicles such as a combine harvester comprises a detector 4 incorporating two substantially parallel light barriers 5, 6 of different lengths and a three-way controller 7 operable to control a magnetic valve 8 in response to neither or one or both of the light barriers being interrupted, the valve 8 acting upon a steering cylinder 11 to change or maintain the direction of travel. As shown in the Figure solenoids 9, 10 are actuated to cause right or left hand steering respectively, and the controller 7 is programmed so that if, for example, both light barriers 5, 6 are interrupted by crops thrown up by cutter table 1 then the combine is too far to the right and solenoid 10 of valve 8 must correct the direction until the barrier 7 is interrupted. A delay or damping action is provided to stabilize the corrective action. A switch 12 allows manual control whereupon the cylinder 11 is controlled through a steering valve 13.
