Abstract

1363854 Waste-disposal apparatus DENT & HELLYER 20 Dec 1971 [21 Dec 1970] 60473/70 Heading B2A Waste-disposal apparatus particularly for hospital waste, comprises a receptacle 1, means 15 to disintegrate waste material and means to discharge it from the apparatus. A sleeve 5 has a circular cross-section bore defined by an apertured wall, the sleeve having one end 6 connected to the bottom 3 of the receptacle 1 and the other end below the bottom. A rotor 15 coaxial with the sleeve bore has a convex or frusto conical surface 21 with elongate upstanding cutters 28 which may be angled at 50‹ to 70‹ to the horizontal and thus effect a progressive cut in cooperation with fixed cutters 24 secured to the internal surface of the apertured wall. Vanes 23 on the rotor project into an annular chamber 10 below the rotor and facilitate pumping and discharge. The apparatus includes a valve 13, 14 arranged in the drain. The drain includes a branch 12 permitting recirculation of material during comminution. Sprays 30, 31 facilitate flushing and cleaning.
