Abstract

1363802 Endless conveyers WINKEL MACHINE CO Inc 28 March 1972 [21 May 1971] 14530/72 Heading B8A Battery grids G or like articles having a body portion F with laterally extending lugs L are rotated from a substantially horizontal position to a substantially vertical position by two conveyers 104, 115, the first extending substantially horizontally and supporting the lugs and the second extending downwardly at an acute angle to the first conveyer and supporting the body portion F. The first conveyer comprises a pair of spaced chains 106, 107 passing around end sprockets 108, 109 and 112, 113 mounted respectively on plates 49, 48, themselves mounted on oppositely threaded portions of spindles 43, 44 whereby the spacing of the chains, to suit the spacing of the lugs, may be changed. The chains 106, 107 are driven by sprockets 68, 69 slidingly secured by keys on a shaft 61 driven by a chain 64 from a shaft 16 coupled to a drive motor (not shown). The second conveyer comprises a pair of spaced chains 141, 142 passing over end sprockets 136, 138 and 137, 139, the sprockets 136, 137 being mounted respectively on plates 124 (123), Fig. 7 (not shown) which are pivotable about the axis of the sprockets 138, 139 whereby the inclination of the second conveyer can be adjusted. An adjustable bracket 148 retains the second conveyer in its desired inclination. The end sprockets 138, 139 are driven by a chain 122 from the shaft 61. Mounted adjacent the downstream ends of the conveyers are a pair of transfer wheels 101, 103 driven by a chain 82 from the shaft 61 and each having notches 98 in the periphery thereof to engage the lugs L of the grids and transfer them on to a further conveyer 189. Mounted adjacent the upstream end of the conveyers are a pair of centralizing rollers rotating about a vertical axis and driven from the shaft 16 such that the peripheral speed corresponds to the speed of the grids on a supply conveyer 188. The position of the rollers is adjustable to accommodate grids of different sizes. A pair of pinch rollers 23, 28 are also mounted adjacent the upstream end of the conveyers and are likewise driven from the shaft 16. The lineal speed of the first conveyer in less than the component of the speed of the second conveyer parallel to the first conveyer to turn the grids without relative movement between the respective chains and the respective parts of the grids.
