Abstract
1362923 Firing mechanism; electrically initiated detonation FRANCE ARMED FORCES MINISTER OF 30 Oct 1972 [12 Nov 1971] 50011/72 Headings F3A and F3C A detonator comprises a plastics envelope (1) (Fig. 1, not shown) containing a pyrotechnic substance (2) sensitive to heat and a metal element (3) which is inductively heatable by a winding situated outside the detonator and subject to an alternating electric current, to ignite the substance. The detonator 7 may be employed in a cartridge having a non-metallic case 4. An induction winding 8 is disposed in the breech 9 of the gun. The winding and element may be circular to increase the magnetic coupling (Figs. 3, 4, not shown). In an alternative form of detonator (Fig. 7, not shown) the winding is electrically insulated from an inner body (3) which constitutes the element.
