Abstract

1361042 Treating aqueous wastes G & W H CORSON Inc 16 June 1971 28112/71 Heading C1C [Also in Division E1] A hardenable composition comprises an aqueous chemical waste sludge and at least one additive, the additive(s) being such that the composition contains at least 0À5% by wt. sulphate ions, at least 0À2% by wt. aluminium and/or ferric ions (expressed as Al 2 O 3 equivalents) and at least 0À5% by wt. calcium and/or magnesium ions (expressed as CaO equivalents). The waste sludge may be that obtained from a hydrofluoric acid making plant (such a sludge contains mainly CaSO 4 ) or that prepared from a pickle liquor product of a steel plant. The additives specified are fly ash, calcium sulphate anhydrite, hemihydrate and dihydrate, quick lime, slaked lime, dolomite lime and alumina. An aggregate such as stone, gravel, sand or soil may be added to the hardenable composition.
