Abstract

1360235 Acoustic surface wave devices MARCONI CO Ltd 26 Oct 1971 [17 April 1971] 9736/71 Heading H3U To avoid acoustic surface wave diffraction effects produced by a known form at interdigital transducer, Fig. 1 (not shown) whose fingers have a weighted overlap region, a plurality of shorter fingers positioned in the non- overlap region, each aligned with an overlapping finger and separated therefrom by a gap 7 are provided. The electrical and mechanical impedance over the entire transducer area is thus made uniform. Each additional finger is connected to bus electrodes 1, 2, or alternatively each alternate, or third such finger may be electrically disconnected at its base. Bridges 8, 9, may connect each additional finger adjacent gaps 7 with the neighbouring overlapping fingers. A piezoelectric substrate supporting the transducer may be formed of lithium metaniobate, or quartz. Suitable transducer metals are Al, or Au.
