Abstract

1360225 Carbonated beverage dispensing equipment DISTILLERS-CO (CARBON DIOXIDE) Ltd 19 Oct 1972 [24 July 1971] 34844/71 Heading A4T [Also in Divisions Fl and H1] Carbonated beverage dispensing apparatus comprises a container 10, Fig.1 for beer pressurized with carbon dioxide at 12, and connected to conduit 13 leading to dispense taps 11 via pump 14, check valve 15, flow switch 18 and pressure switch 17. Normally when a tap 11 is opened, pressure in the dispense line falls, switch 17 closes, energized relay coil 32, Fig.3 which closes contacts 31 allowing mains voltage at 29, 30 to drive the series wound motor 26 driving centrifugal pump 14. On closing the tap, pressure rises and switch 17 opens to stop the pump. If gas is produced in line 16 due to pressure reductions, temperature rises or emptying of container 10, switch 17 is not actuated to stop the pump. However flow through the flow controlled switch 18 ceases, its contacts 19, Fig.3, close and current via transformer 35 at bridge rectifier 36 will charge capacitor 38 and after a certain delay will bias transistor base 39 allowing current to pass through relay coil 34 to open contacts 33 deenergizing relay coil 32 and opening contacts 31 to stop motor 26. Relay 34 may control further contacts to an illuminated warning sign at the taps indicating attention is required, or operate a tap lock, or change over from an empty keg to a full one. The combined pressure and flow controlled switches comprise a spring-loaded diaphragm-actuated pressure responsive switch 17 Fig.2, and a flow responsive piston 22 in flow path from 24 to 25, the piston having a magnet 23 which is moved away from reed contact unit 19 to open it when flow occurs, and drops back to close it on cessation of flow for any reason.
