1359497 Portable fire extinguisher FIRE SNOW Ltd 29 Aug 1972 [27 Aug 1971] 40396 71 Heading A5A A fire extinguisher operated by a hand actuated member A movable on the discharge head A<SP>1</SP> by depression of the member opening a valve to allow the escape of the contents through a nozzle a<SP>2</SP>, has a frangible rod B located in co-axial bores b and b<SP>1</SP> in A and A<SP>1</SP> respectively such that actuation of member A breaks the rod and thus indicates that the extinguisher has been used. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 4), actuation is by depression of a spring loaded plunger C<SP>1</SP> after removal of cap D, the movement of the plunger breaking off the rubber or other knobs fitted over the ends of a frangible rod which project from bore b<SP>10</SP> in the discharge head C below the plunger.
