Abstract

1358994 Measuring cable vibrations electrically SASKATCHEWAN POWER CORP 15 March 1972 [16 March 1971] 6990/71 Heading G1N An assembly for measuring the magnitude of vibratory movement between an overhead line 10 and a suspension clamp 11A comprises a strain gauge assembly 13A including a resilient steel beam 16 with strain gauges 17 bonded thereto and clamped at one end in a tube 23, the other end of the beam having a cable contact member 26 secured thereto and extending substantially orthogonally thereof, electrical signals from the strain gauges being conducted to an FM transmitter 31 for transmission to a remote receiver, alternatively for use where the line is not energized the signals may be connected directly by cable to a receiver and recording equipment Fig. 1, (not shown). A bracket 27 extends from a supporting bracket 24 and a screw threaded adjustment bolt 28 engages bracket 27 and a pad on the underside of the tube 23 to control the pressure which the cable contact member exerts against the cable. Various alternative embodiments are illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4, (not shown) and Figs. 5-8, (not shown) illustrate the measuring circuits.
