Abstract
1358634 Automatic altitude control VEREINIGTE FLUGTECHNISCHE WERKEFOKKER GmbH 4 April 1972 [3 April 1971] 15489/72 Heading G3R A submarine is maintained at a constant height above the sea bed under the control of errors between the required and measured values of vertical and oblique distances between the submarine and the sea bed. In an embodiment, a sonar and echo sounder are used respectively to measure the oblique and vertical distances R, H, which are compared with required values Rsoll, Hsoll derived from generator 12, any errors #R #H being applied to logic circuits 13, 14 which also include amplifiers whose outputs Y 1 Y 2 are summed by adder 15 and fed to the submarine elevator rudder control 16, which may also be fed, via amplifier 18 and adder 19, a pitch angle signal # from gyroscope 17. Ascent of the submarine is initiated if either measured distance is less than the required value, the amplification by amplifiers, forming part of logic circuits 13, 14, being increased if both distances are too small. Descent is initiated only if both distances are greater than the required values.
