Abstract

1358077 Switches held set and released mechanically HOOVER Ltd 22 June 1971 [25 June 1970] 29267/71 Heading H1N A member 24 must be moved both rectilinearly and pivotally to operate a switch 16. As applied to a drying cabinet or the like the member 24 is moved rectilinearly by closure of a door 10 acting on a slide 28: the member 24 is pivoted to the slide 28 and when it has been shifted to the position shown it can be pivoted by a pushbutton 14 to act on the button 18 of microswitch 16. The member 24 has a notch 50 so that it is latched by and holds in the button 18; the switch 16 is thus held set until the door is opened and member 24 is moved away from the switch and released. In another embodiment (Figs. 3, 4, not shown) the member 24 is replaced by a shaft 124 (Fig. 5) which is pivoted in bearings at 128, 129 and has a cam formation 148 for actuating the switch 16 in one angular and axial position and a projection 125 upon which the push-button 14 acts. End 128 of the shaft 124 is acted on by the door to move the shaft axially against a spring bias (138) while the push-button 14 rotates it in its bearings. The shaft is also formed with a cam groove 152 co-operating with a fixed pin 158 which prevents rotation of the shaft until it is in the correct axial position (door closed) and also causes the shaft to be rotated to the off position when the door is opened by means of a sloping surface 160 and the axial biasing spring (138). Alternatively the spring (138) can be both a compression and a torsion spring to bias the shaft to its inoperative position. The shape of the cam surfaces 148 may be such that the door can be closed to operate the switch after the push-button 14 is depressed or alternatively (Figs. 7-10, not shown) to prevent door closure unless the push-button 14 is released.
