Abstract
1358062 Photopolymerizable compositions UNIROYAL Inc 13 July 1971 [3 Aug 1970] 32744/71 Heading C3P [Also in Division G2] Non - aqueous photopolymerizable compositions suitable for application to a substrate to form a photopolymerizable element (for use in forming printing plates) comprise (I) at least 40% by weight of a nitrile rubber (defined as an elastomeric copolymer containing at least 50% by weight of a copolymerized C 4 -C 10 conjugated diene and at least 2% by weight of copolymerized acrylonitrile or alpha-substituted acrylonitrile); (II) at least 5% by weight of a polyethylenically unsaturated ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid; and (III) 0À1 to 10% by weight of an addition polymerization initiator activatable by actinic light. The nitrile rubber may be derived from (a) butadiene, hexadiene, heptadiene, octadiene or nonadiene and (b) acrylonitrile, chloroacrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile. The (meth)acrylic ester is suitably a poly(meth)acrylate ester of a glycol, glycerol, trimethylolpropane, pentaerythritol, 1,4- cyclohexanediol or 1,4 - benzenediol. Useful initiators include diacetyl, benzil, benzoin, pivaloin, benzoin methyl or ethyl ether, α- methylbenzoin, α-phenylbenzoin and benzophenone.
