Abstract

1358029 Stereophonic radio receivers STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 4 May 1973 21242/73 Heading H4L A radio receiver comprises a radio-frequency stage 1, a single channel audio-frequency stage 2, a decoder 3 for stereophonic reception, a socket 10 for receiving a plug 8 of a stereophonic sound transducer 9, and a switch arrangement 6, 7 which is operable by insertion of the plug to switch out the audio-frequency stage and to apply operating current to the decoder. In the battery operated portable radio shown insertion of the plug 8 of a pair of stereophonic headphones 9 into a jack 10 not only connects the headphones to the decoder 3 but also, either mechanically or electromagnetically causes switch 6 to open and switch 7 to close cutting off the supply of current to the audio frequency stage and applying it to the decoder 3. Twin loud-speakers may replace the headphones.
