Abstract

1357011 Heparinised plastics AMINKEMI AB 4 Oct 1971 [5 Oct 1970 7 April 1971] 46135/71 Heading B2E In. a method for stabilising a heparinised plastic surface having surface-bonded cationic groups bonded to heparin to render the surface non thranbogenic, the heparinised surface is brought into contact with a dialdehyde having 0-4 CH 2 groups between the two aldehyde groups. Plastic surfaces which may be heparinised are made from polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene and polytetrafluoroethylene. Elastomers and cellulose derivatives are also suitable. To make the plastic surface receptive to heparinisation it is treated with a cationic surface active agent, e.g. containing an alkyl chain of at least 4 carbon atoms. Other suitable agents are primary, secondary and tertiary amines and their salts as well as quaternary ammonium compounds, pyridinium and guanidinium salts which have C 2+ alkyl attached as disclosed in British Patent No. 1,130,345. Glutandialdehyde is the preferred dialdehyde and may be used in 0.1-5% aqueous solution.
