Abstract

1355837 Polyolefin - polyamide filaments MONTECATINI EDISON SpA 28 May 197 1 [3 June 1970] 18045/71 Heading B5B [Also in Division C3] Dyeable fibres may be spun from compositions comprising (1) 75 to 99 weight per cent of fibreforming polymer, preferably a crystalline polyolefin such as polypropylene, and (2) 1 to 25 weight per cent of a basic polyamide obtained by reacting a polyamine with a polymer of an ester of an α,#-unsaturated acid, other than an ethylene/acrylic ester copolymer. The composi- tions may be melt spun, and the fibres stretched at ratios up to 1 : 20 at 80 to 150‹ C. in hot air or vapour, particularly steam, or in contact with a hot plate; or they may be subjected to orientation after extrusion. The fibres may be stabilized by annealing at 80 to 160‹ C. under conditions of free or impeded shrinkage. The compositions may form the internal part or outside lining of a "sheath-core" type fibre, or one of the components of a conjugated fibre. The basic polyamides may be insolubilized before or after stretching by reacting with diepoxides, diisocyanates, dialdehydes, dihalogen compounds or divinylbenzene. In examples compositions of polypropylene and basic polyamides are spun and steam stretched at 130‹ C. in a ratio of 1 : 5.
