Abstract

1354662 Protective arrangements ELEKTRISKA AB ELETTA 20 Oct 1972 48363/72 Heading H2H [Also in Division H1] A high voltage assembly 1 for use in electrostatic surface coating operations comprises an elongate discharge resistor 3 permanently connected in parallel with the output of the assembly, the assembly being encapsulated in a block of plastic insulating material which block is provided with an elongate hole 2 having a contact 4 placed at one end of the hole and connected to the high voltage output of the assembly, the hole being closed by a detachable plug 5 forming a contact between the resistor 3 and an earth electrode 7, the resistor being resiliently arranged in the hole 2 between the contact 4, 5 by means of a spring 6. Alternatively the end caps 3a, 3b of the resistor may be spring loaded. The plug 5 may be screwed into, or be a push fit into, the hole 2 and a plug 2a may be inserted into the hole if the hole 2 is a through hole. The resistance has a value of thousands of megohms and may be a solid resistor and the hole 2 may be filled with a gas or liquid. Alternatively the resistor may be a liquid resistor and means may be provided so that the liquid resistor may be of a liquid helical form.
