Some at least of the rakes 24 are in the form of pivotable rectangular plate rakes 25, Figs. 2, 4, 5. The upper part 26 of the plate 25 is cranked to accommodate a pivot pin 30 passing through web plates 28 welded to the cranked part 26 and bushings 34, 35 welded to a holder 33 in turn secured by angle irons 36 to conveyer chains 40. Springs 37 engage between the holder 33 and the rakes 25 at 37<SP>11</SP> to hold them in the vertical position, Figs. 4, 5, from which they can be forced through an angle W opposite the conveying direction P between stop determined positions. The arrangement is such that in the normal position the pivotable rakes extend beyond any fixed rakes and have about the same or a little greater extension in the fully extended position so that damage to the rakes is prevented when in the lowest position of the guides 10, 11 the floor 13 is being completely cleared or when obstructions to the rakes are encountered.
