Abstract

1353156 Rotary positive-displacement machines F R GILLESPIE and B R STEPHENSON 27 April 1971 [19 Oct 1970] 49445/70 Heading F1F In a peristaltic pump for e.g. an artifical kidney machine, two pumping tubes (not shown) extend circumferentially between fixed blocks 20 of a circular track so as to be compressed against segments 16 of the latter by rollers 15 on a rotatable carrier 11. The segments clamp the tubes against the blocks and in being pivoted at 18 facilitate insertion or removal of the tubes. Spring-loaded spindles 19 hold the segments in the positions shown. The carrier 11 is rotated on a fixed spindle 14 by an electric motor 4 cooled by a fan 23 on its output shaft, which is coupled to the carrier by a steplessly-variable gear-box 5 and a gear train 10, 12, 13.
