Abstract

1353126 Fluid actuated stepping motors J GACHOT and S LEKARSKI 2 June 1972 [3 June 1971 3 May 1972] 25782/72 Headings F1D and F1P [Also in Division F2] In a stepping motor which is operated by fluidpressure, a member 3, Fig. 1, which has parallel grooves 13 is rotated by rows of balls 8, Fig. 2, moved by pistons 6, 7, the successive rows of balls being displaced with respect to the bottoms of the grooves by a distance equal to one step. The pistons are attached to sealing diaphragms 14 and are sequentially operated in opposite pairs by a storage-type logic circuit, Fig. 4. End of travel signals and rotational direction signals appear at AND-gates such as 44a and this delivers a signal to one of OR-gates 51-54 and the corresponding OR-gate 61-64. The signal is also transmitted from OR-gate 51-54 to the respective storage device 21-24 then to the appropriate pistons. Signals from OR-gates 61-64 erase the information in the storage devices. Figs. 5, 6 illustrate a linear motor in which a grooved member 71 is moved by rows of balls 80 operated by pistons 79. Successive balls in each row, i.e. L 1 - L 7 are displaced with respect to the grooves by one step. Fig. 9, (not shown), illustrates a two-stage linear motor. Control is effected by a circuit which compares the desired position of the motor with its actual position with reference to a datam position. Position signals are produced for single steps and the required number of multiples of ten.
