Abstract
1352956 Aircraft instrument HONEYWELL Inc 19 Oct 1972 [21 Oct 1971 4 Nov 1971] 48125/72 Heading B7W An aircraft instrument determines and displays a signal related to the specific energy, that is, the total energy per unit weight, of the aircraft. The specific energy, calculated from the altitude and airspeed measured by sensors (10), (11), Fig. 1 (not shown) is indicated on a meter (18) by a pointer 32 on a scale 33, and the optimum Mach number in accordance with a minimum time manoeuvre schedule is indicated on a concentric scale 34, while further concentric scales 35, 36 indicate respectively the maximum safe Mach number or altitude obtainable in a constant energy diving or climbing manoeuvre. A further meter (26) indicates the rate of change of specific energy calculated from the airspeed and the flight path acceleration, which is in turn determined from the accelerations along and normal to the flight path and the angle of attack, as measured by sensors (12), (14) and (13).
