Abstract

1352806 Spot-type disc brake element mountings; preventing vibration AUTOMOBILES CITROEN SA 12 June 1972 [17 June 1971] 27389/72 Heading F2E In a disc brake especially for automobile vehicles comprising an axially-fixed disc 1, a fixed brake frame 2, a friction element 10, Fig. 3, at each side of the disc, each friction element including a support or plate 9 held by rigid and removable fixing means such as a single spindle 14 so that the plates can slide along guide surfaces 11, Fig. 1, of the frame 2, control means such as a piston 6, Fig. 2, for applying each element and a resilient anti-vibration component 12 preventing, by pressure, at least one plate 9 from vibrating, the resilient anti-vibration component 12 is arranged also to immobilize the spindle 14 relative to the frame and to prevent it from moving in a direction perpendicular to the direction in which the component exerts pressure on it. As shown, the anti-vibration component 12 (not depicted complete in any Figure) consists of a generally U-shaped piece of spring steel wire of which the middle portion 12a, Fig. 3, presses down upon the plates 9 of the two friction elements 10, the limbs 12b, Fig. 1, are kinked at 12c to exert upward pressure via grooves 17 on spindle 14, and the ends 12d are turned inwards and supported directly by frame 2 or, as shown, each presses down upon an auxiliary friction element consisting of lining 19 and plate 20. At each end, the spindle 14 passes through a hole 16 in a plate 9 and is supported in a hole 15a or 15b in the frame. To remove an element, spring limbs 12c are disengaged from grooves 17, pin 14 is slid until free of hole 16 in the appropriate element, and the element is withdrawn radially through opening 13 of the casing 2, Fig. 3. Each auxiliary element 19, 20, is accommodated in a housing 21 and applied by a lever 18. Modifications: there may be more than one spindle; the disc need not be axially fixed and only one element need be slid relative to the frame by the control means (which may be pneumatic or mechanical); the resilient component may be strip, and one may be provided for each friction element.
