Abstract

1352258 Wells &c HYDRIL CO 29 Sept 1971 45274/71 Heading E1F A blow-out preventer comprises a body B having a central passage 12, a ram R for closing the passage, a bonnet H disconnectable from the body and receiving the ram in the passage open position, a cylinder C carried by the bonnet, and a piston D in the cylinder and connected to the ram by a rod 22. The preventer has two rams and the bonnet for each ram is movable away from the body to permit removal of the ram. The piston and cylinder which serve to move a ram between open and closed positions are operable for moving a disconnected bonnet away from and towards the body, a detent mounted on a member 30 preventing relative movement between ram and body, and fluid being supplied to the sides of the piston through flexible conduits F-1, F-2. The conduits are protected by tubes 35 which serve to guide the bonnet. The piston rod has an enlarged end 24a engaging -within slots 25, 26 in a ram and permitting lateral or vertical removal of the ram, the tubes 35 being below the rams to permit the lateral removal. In a modification the conduits are jointed tubes and the tubes 35 are replaced by members having a U shaped section. Specifications 1352259 and 1352260 are referred to.
